The Upanishads

(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upanishad) The Upanishads (उपनिषद्, IAST: upaniṣad) are regarded as part of the Vedas and as such form the core spiritual thought of Vedanta. The following list includes the eleven "principal" (mukhya) Upanishads that were commented upon by Shankara, and that are accepted as shruti by most Hindus. The fifteen Upanishads are listed with their associated Veda as follows:

  2. Shukla (White) Yajur Veda: Brhadaranyaka Upanishad, Isha Upanishad
  3. Krishna (Black) Yajur Veda: Taittiriya Upanishad, Svetasvatara Upanishad, Katha Upanishad, Maitrayani Upanishad, Narayana Upanishad
  4. Sama Veda: Chandogya Upanishad, Jaiminiya Upanishad brahmana Upanishad, Kena Upanishad
  5. Atharva Veda: Mundaka Upanishad, Mandukya Upanishad, Prasna Upanishad
